I think it is a great idea for people to advertise their bird finding tours on birding-aus. It would then be easy to find someone to take me to the sewage farm at Werribee when I come down or take me to find the Sunbird nest in north Queensland. I had a couple from Austria ask me in the hide at Bribie Island who would take them out in Melbourne and all I could say was check on google. The owner of Birding-aus could charge a fee for this service. Bird watchers need a internet site for all the tour operators and this is a good place to kick it off. Peter Boyd.

Hello all, From memory its allowable to advertise on birding-aus as long as you put the word ‘advertisement’ in the subject line. I’m surprised more people don’t do it. Cheers Richard Sent from my iPhone

I think there are two issues – BirdingAus has always been a place to ask about visits to specific locations and I see that as a reasonable use. BirdLife Werribee is also happy to help and I guess most other BirdLife branches will help visitors – and there is always birdingpal.org. Whilst on the face of it many of us are interested in tours, I see this as the thin end of the wedge. Once we allow tours to be advertised next will be accommodation, photos, DVDs, t-shirts…. Where do we draw the line? I realise this is a question for Russell but I think commercial ventures should not be advertised – many posters of course put their company details in their signature and that seems plenty. Anyway – how hard is it to google for a bird tour! On 7 May 2015 at 10:42, Sonja Ross < sonja.ross7@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Peter, If people wanting to be taken to Werribee don’t want a professional guide, they can try contacting BirdLife Melbourne either via the national or local sites. We try to help, although can’t always. Sonja
