summary of Aus birding for US travel site.

Good morning all I’ve been asked to help put together a summary of Aus birding for a new US travel site. I’ve no pecuniary interest in this, having largely retired from bird guiding. Would Birding Aussers like to send me their opinions of the best sites for birding in Australia? Thanks Denise Denise Lawungkurr Goodfellow PO Box 71 Darwin River, NT, Australia 0841 043 8650 835 PhD candidate, Southern Cross University, Lismore, NSW. With every introduction of a plant or animal that goes feral this continent becomes a little less unique, a little less Australian.

Hi Peter I’m well aware of this issue. It often arises with birding couples (the subject of my PhD), with spouses nominating different ‘favourite’ destinations/countries. Wouldn’t it be better just to refer them to some of the where to find birds guides available? I would have thought each person’s idea of “best sites” would differ a lot depending on what they’d seen here before, and their interests. E.g. a first time visitor interested in seeing as many birds as possible during a short stay might be happy to get to the closest decent parks to get 100 species or so before they leave. On their next visit, they’re going to have to be much more choosey. Peter Shute
