Passing call

Thanks all who had input for this. Because the call was outside a bedroom here (ex-rainforest hills), I’m thinking maybe birds often make calls that are too quiet for us to hear — indeed, this may be the point of the quietness. So I’m going for Rose-crowned Fruit-Dove, at sound-quality unlikely to be heard usually.

Oceanwide Ross Sea Expedition 2017

I was perhaps the only serious passenger birder on the 32-day Ross Sea Expedition, 15 Feb to 17 March, from Bluff, NZ, to Campbell Island, the Ross Sea, then parallel to the Antarctic Coast to Peter I Island, the Antarctic Peninsular and ending in Ushuaia. My main reason to go was to see an Emperor . . . → Read More: Oceanwide Ross Sea Expedition 2017

Turquoise Parrots

We are going to Beechworth next week. It has been a lifelong hope to see Turquoise Parrots.

Does anyone know favourable sites for them in the area? I know the Chiltern sites, Bartlett’s Paddock etc. Is this a good time of year?

Thanks, Stephen

Cash for Night Parrot

In an article in The Weekend Australian I address the irony of cashed up birders being rewarded with a visit to the Pullen Pullen Night Parrot Reserve in return for a $25,000 donation, while others face a $353,000 fine for entering more than 250,000ha of potential Night Parrot habitat that has been locked up by . . . → Read More: Cash for Night Parrot

What if ground parrot?

Absolutely great about the night parrot; but what about the WA ground parrot? Have any survived the fires of 2016?

night parrot

Dear All

Really great news about finding the Night Parrot in WA. This makes almost a dozen known presumed breeding sites.

John Young must again be feted for his remarkable persistence in “re-discovering” these birds

He deserves an OA , in the meantime BA should create and bestow an ONP , (Order of the . . . → Read More: night parrot
