Sea birding off Bremer Bay (WA)

G’day While watching the doco “The Search for the Ocean’s Super Predator ” on the ABC the other night, I was fascinated by the seabird activity in a marine hotspot south of Bremer Bay. Amongst other things, there were a large number (20-30) of Orcas present, which was apparently unusual in Australian waters. Apparently there may be a hydrocarbon seep in a canyon that is the base of the food pyramid there. It would be interesting to see how the seabird abundance there compares with that off Albany (the port of southern pelagics in WA). It may be possible for a group of pelagic birders to get on a boat heading out to the Bremer sea canyon hot spot in February (see below). I saw that doco too – the seabird activity I saw looked like mostly Flesh-footed Shearwaters with a few Indian Yellow-nosed and Black-browed Albatross, but obviously wasn’t the focus of much of the filming. But a few of the claims in the film seemed a little exaggerated, I didn’t see much to suggest it would any better than Albany.
