Sanderling in breeding colours. Ballina NSW

Might be of interest to some. Last Thursday, 3rd Dec, at Flat Rock, Ballina, far northern NSW, there was an unusual Sanderling, in breeding colours.

Don’t know if a photo that I’ve attached will get thru birding-aus, but you can see a few more photos on my eBird list.

I note, primary moult hasn’t started yet or not active, which I think suggests it’s a youngish bird.

I’ve been back looking for it a few times since, but no further sightings.  Maybe it’ll turn up somewhere further south.

I’ve long been hoping to find a Little Stint in this condition, hopefully one day I’ll get lucky.

Cheers, Steve McBride.
