The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period Monday, September 16, 2013 to Sunday, September 22, 2013: Area: SA Location: Point Sturt Peninsula White-throated Gerygone (Gerygone olivacea) (1) I was amazed to find a sub-adult White throated Gerygone foraging in our Mallee Box woodlot last Thursday. First located by it’s song,then observed for 30 minutes from as close as 3 metres! It was calling frequently and aggressively chasing the resident Y.R.Thornbills, Weebills and Grey Fantail. Still present the following day. Reported by: Nathaniel Doecke on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 ——————————————— Date: Saturday, September 14, 2013 Location: Onkaparinga Estuary from Port Noarlunga through to South Road Blue-billed Duck (Oxyura australis) (3) Three, one breeding male in Old Noarlunga wetland, plus dead bird near Port Noarlunga oval. Also, Pink eared Duck (6), White necked Heron (at least 3), Baillons Crake (6), Lathams Snipe (1) and White winged Triller (1) Reported by: Jim Allen on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 ——————————————— Date: Friday, September 20, 2013 Location: Park Tce, North Adelaide Little Lorikeet (Glossopsitta pusilla) (2) Possible sighting. Two birds flew out of a tree from the golf course and over my car as I was waiting at traffic lights at War Memorial Drive.Birds were small and very yellow especially on the head and face. Red on face visible. Reported by: Martyn Price on Friday, September 20, 2013 ——————————————— Date: Saturday, September 21, 2013 Location: Sandy Creek CP Shining Bronze-Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx lucidus) (1) being hassled by red-capped robins During a birdwatching walk & talk by Phil Barron, a Shining Bronze-Cuckoo was sighted near the waterhole down the track from the Youth Hostel. Also saw Rufous Whistler, Red-capped Robin, Grey Currawong and a Chough sitting on a mud nest. Reported by: Lisa Girdham on Sunday, September 22, 2013 ——————————————— Date: Sunday, September 22, 2013 Location: Tanunda Sewage Ponds Freckled Duck (Stictonetta naevosa) (2) a pair sighted Blue-billed Duck (Oxyura australis) (1) seen diving Pink-eared Duck (Malacorhynchus membranaceus) (1) quite a number of pink-eared ducks! Hardhead (Aythya australis) (1) a few sighted Grey Teal (Anas gracilis) (1) quite a few – not enough time to count! Pacific Black Duck (Anas superciliosa) (1) Black-tailed Native-hen (Gallinula ventralis) (1) flock seen in adjacent cropped paddock Eurasian Coot (Fulica atra) (1) Australian Reed-Warbler (Acrocephalus australis) (1) Reed-warbler seen earlier in the day singing its heart out at Chateau Tanunda’s effluent ponds. With a couple of weary non-birders as passengers, I didn’t have long enough to do a proper count, but very glad that I stopped!!
