Birdpedia – Australia – Weekly Digest

The following is a digest of Sightings Reported on Birdpedia for the period Monday, November 30, 2020 to Sunday, December 6, 2020:

Area: SA

Location: Adelaide Botanic Garden

Brown Goshawk (Accipiter fasciatus) (1) One or two yellow-tailed black cockatoos (YTBC) had been flying over high up all morning. Suddenly a YTBC flew at tree-top level with a brown goshawk in hot pursuit, very close and very aggressive, making a loud racket, both of them. They disappeared behind a tree … and silence fell. Heart in mouth I waited in trepidation. After a few minutes the YTBC flew out of the tree, so thankfully it was not turned into goshawk lunch.
Brown goshawks are sometimes seen in the garden and I have been told they nest there. I have also seen one in the grounds of St Peters College nearby.
