White-backed magpie in Mulgoa.

One of a group of otherwise black-backed magpies in the garden yesterday had a white back extending down to the rump, which was black.
It was a young bird, it’s white feathers still speckled grey, but overall an attractive pattern.
Even though only partial, white-backs not seen here before, last seen by me south of Albury and southeastern SA where they are all white-backed.
My impression is that the southern populations have a better vocal repertoire, their carolling is more prolonged and among Australia’s most beautiful birdsong.
