roost-tree species? Rainbow Lorikeets

In HANZAB I can’t locate species names for lorikeet roost trees. All Rainbows I see go for well-lit roadside pines in the evenings. Do they roost in other tree types? Has this changed? Cheers, Judith jlukin01@postoffice.csu.edu.au

Hi Judith, The introduced RLs over here in Perth also favour tall well lit trees. They famously roost in huge numbers in the Norfolk Pines on the Cottesloe foreshore but probably their most preferred roost tree over here are the introduced lemon scented gums like those at Perth airport until they cut most of them down. I have also seen them roost in cocos and cotton palms in the suburbs. Marri, tuart, jarrah usually in open well lit areas such as parks, shopping centre carparks, train station carparks. The few on Rottnest were roosting in the tuart trees before they were eradicated. I have yet to see RLs roost in Karri trees but they havn’t got that far south yet… Mark Mark Blythman Animal Science Program | Science and Conservation Division | Department of Parks and Wildlife ph (08) 9405 5181 Mark.Blythman@DPaW.wa.gov.au —–Original Message—– Sent: Friday, 3 July 2015 2:43 PM In HANZAB I can’t locate species names for lorikeet roost trees.
