I will have a few days in the Cairns / Atherton Tablelands area in late July. I would be interested in seeing this form of Southern Boobook. Are there any sites where they might be more likely? I haven’t booked accommodation yet. One night in Cairns then three more nights. Maybe two at Kingfisher Park and one at Lake Eacham area. Frank, At Mt Hypipamee on the walk from the crater to the Barron River there are a number of sites regularly used by a very dark bird. She will roost under epiphytes on horizontal branches if it is wet in the early morning and these are good areas to search during the day. hi Frank, I think if u are staying at those 2 locales then u will be on the money for a lurida Boobook. as long as u are in continuous rainforest on the uplands & u see or hear a Boobook then it’s almost certainly going to be one of these… Mt Lewis near Kingf Park is very good for them, as is the crater lakes area – also worth looking in would be Mt Hypapipamee/Longlands Gap area; Danbulla Forest Drive in rainforest areas; & the very end of Davies Creek Rd…there’s also some good spots for them further south too inland from Innisfail & Ingham… good luck!! cheers, martin cachard, cairns 0428 782 808 _______________________________________________ Birding-Aus mailing list Birding-Aus@birding-aus.org To change settings or unsubscribe visit: http://birding-aus.org/mailman/listinfo/birding-aus_birding-aus.org
