Does anyone know if the populations of Helmeted Guineafowl at Charters Towers and Magnetic Island are still present? Those populations were the reason the species was included on the Australian list by Christidis & Boles (2008) and I was hoping to twitch them at one of those locations. Hi Tania, I’m not sure about other locations but Magnetic Island is a place I go to a couple of times a year. I’ve never seen them there in over ten years of looking. I have seen them further south, near Emerald. Good luck. Joe

Tania the population on chewko Road has survived heavy culling. I think the three flocks may have reformed into one but am not sure. Hi Tania, There’s none on Magnetic Is. As for Charters Towers, I’ve never seen them there and I go through there regularly, but I guess it depends on where: “Charters Towers” sometimes means more than just the town itself. Do you have any more specific info on the CT population? Cheers Eric Sent from my iPad
