Princess Parrots – Permit NEWSFLASH – bad news

See below :(

Good Afternoon,

The Central Land Council has just received detailed advice from traditional owners of the Mereenie – Mt Winter area. All permits for birdwatching for this area will be refused.

Traditional owners have requested that police question all people visiting this region and determine if they have a valid permit. It is an offence under the land rights act to be on Aboriginal land without a valid permit. Hefty fines apply.

Regards Jaide Warner Reception / Permits Officer Central Land Council 27 Stuart Highway Alice Springs, N.T 0870 Ph: 08 8951 6211

The Meerenie Rd permit (I was there a few months back) does not permit you to do anything other than drive the road – no stopping or leaving the car, so birding is tricky!
