Hi All,
It would seem that there is no reliable way of identifying Vanuatu from White-necked Petrels in the field and that there is complete overlap in darkness of the under primaries although Vanuatus are consistently darker. The bird off Port Stephens is certainly at the dark end of the spectrum.
Measurements are the way to go! Thanks to Nikolas, Mick, Paul, Alan and Jeff for input.
