Hi everyone Sorry to clutter up your inbox but I am testing the ability of Birding-Aus to accept images. This is a poor quality shot of a Brown Thornbill taken along the path at Anglesea Foreshore Reserve – about 240Kb. I intend to cap the size of images so we don’t create bandwidth or mailbox storage problems. If people want to post a higher-resolution image they can do that on our Facebook page. The main mailing list is better for posting trip lists, small sized images for discussion and other topics that might have value being archived. That’s the essential difference between the mailing list and our Facebook presence – all messages to the mailing list go into a searchable archive. We have records going back about 15 years. OK all, can we drop this thread now, just seems rather trivial and off-topic. On 11 May 2015 at 22:00, Carl Clifford < carlsclifford@gmail.com> wrote: — ******************************** Ian (Tom) Tarrant Hawthorn East 3123 Victoria http://www.aviceda.org ********************************

Don’t ever feel compelled to befriend anyone on Facebook. Sorry – it’s not called “befriending” any more – but I can’t bring myself to use “friend” as a verb …. Anyway, you only “FRIEND” (ouch) the people you want to communicate with. My Facebook Friends are family, friends, and birders, but are generally limited to people i actually know. I’ve received friend requests from lots of work colleagues, but I ignore them. Groups work a bit differently because you can see the posts and discussions of people who are NOT your friends. Storm’s advice is good about adding personal information. Facebook will ASK for loads of personal (and private) information. Don’t give it to them! You don’t have to use a profile picture, and if you do, it can be a photo of your favourite bird. Lots of people use their pets for their profile pic. Mine is me – but other info, like my date of birth, is made up. That just protects the sort of information that might otherwise be used for identity hijacking. Not that I can understand why anyone else would want to be me …. Russell Woodford Geelong Birding-Aus Owner On 11 May 2015 at 20:13, John Leonard < calyptorhynchus@gmail.com> wrote:

No you don’t. You can either use the screen name you use here or you can hide your profile do others can’t search for it. Just because it says you have to use your real name, doesn’t mean you have to. Use what is safe and works for you. Storm On Sunday, 10 May 2015, calyptorhynchus . < calyptorhynchus@gmail.com> wrote:
