FW: Animation on Lord howe Island phasmid and species extinction

While not strictly about birds, I know many of you have visited Lord Howe Island and Ball’s Pyramid, so some here might be interested in this animation about the Lord Howe Island stick insect, its near extinction, rediscovery and plans to reintroduce it to the island if rats can be eliminated there. Note that you’ll have to enter the password to access the video, as noted below. While clearly not the only reason to undertake a rodent eradication on this Island, it would be fantastic to be able to return this invertebrate, which in the wild is currently found under a single Melaleuca bush some 300m up the sheer face of 650m high Ball’s Pyramid 23 km to the south of the main island, to its original location The feature call “Sticky” can be found online at: password: letitia_vermilla The creator Jilli Rose asks: “Please share the link with whoever you like. The only rule: please don’t upload it anywhere as this would hurt our chances at the film festivals. Enjoy! And do please let us know what you think.
