I have a memory of some research (possibly that to Chris refers) indicating
that lack of understory is required for Noisy Miners to become a problem.
It seems to be easier to remove the Miners than to re-establish understory
– especially in times where understory seems to be officially regarded as
little more than a fire hazard.
