Facebook Groups

G’day all Facebook is infinitely more palatable if you access the birding groups with the iOS or Android app ‘Groups’. You only see the posts that are sent to groups to which you subscribe and you don’t see advertisements or all the other distractions. So if you have a iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android phone or tablet and you think Facebook is banal or whatever (as I mostly do) that’s the way to go. Glad it’s working now. It probably proves the need for the ability to send images to the list – Facebook is fine if you’re on it, but the effort of getting it set up intially is a lot to expect people to do if it’s only to view bird pictures. That’s nowhere near as true today as it was a couple of years ago, but I assume there are still lots who don’t use it. Peter Shute

Well, that was easy, Peter. I went in directly through the app, whereas I usually get into Facebook differently. Not being a regular user, I normally get in by responding to a notification, and maybe that made it react differently to my search. The photo in your email came through as well. That was a first for me after all the attempts with test emails. So, suddenly the sun is shining and all is well in the world. And I’ve managed to get a look at Martin’s photos of dulcis, which we were lucky enough to see with John Young some years ago at Lockhart River. Stunning bird! I assume you’re logged into Facebook, Peter? I don’t think much works in Facebook unless you are. If I enter birding-aus in the search box, it’s at the top of the resulting list. I’m attaching a screen dump of my search just now in the iPad app, but I’m not sure if it’s of a file type that will get through the list’s filters.

After a couple of days of frustration, I’m giving up. I can’t figure out how to get on to the Facebook page. I got to one point where it said to do something “on this page”, but I couldn’t see anything to do. (From memory, it said it was easy). Searching in Facebook produces sites that have nothing to do with Australia’s birding-aus, and downloading the “groups” app didn’t seem to do anything. I’ll stop worrying about photos, and do something else. Peter Morgan The conservation battle is never finally won; the development battle is. e^(πί)+1=0 π = ln(-1)/sqrt(-1)
