Counting birds in my backyard

Good Morning I have been counting birds in my backyard since September this year until to the end of October I never seen so many Rainbow Lorikeets Magpies Corellas and Pheasants Channel Cuckoos I even had variegated honey eater drop in Kookaburras Pink and Greys, Sulpha-Crested cockatoos, Pew Wees One thing surprised me is that the Channel Cuckoos come in pairs and the male is very protective of the female They were on a tree next door to me so I was able to take photos of them being attacked by the noisy miners and the Lorikeets One thing I have notice as well is the Lorikeets are pest to the other Birds I have been feeding meat to a Kookaburra with one eye and the lorikeets attack the poor thing by pulling it’s tail or pecking it on the foot I did not know they even liked meat Regard Kerry Firkin 6 The Yardarm Corlette NSW 2315

Hi Kerry, Although it is not clear from what you wrote whether you see Rainbow Lorikeets eating meat it would be interesting if they do. It has recently come to notice from others that Rainbow Lorikeets will take meat as fed from feeders by people. Whether they know it to be meat, as distinct from some strange red coloured fruit, is open to question. Because it could hardly be considered as predatory behaviour, because it is not like an animal to be killed and eaten. They are likely just copying what they see other birds eat. As for domineering behaviour, that is quite ordinary for them. If I can guess at inserting in your sentence what birds you are naming: “Rainbow Lorikeets, Magpies, Corellas (likely Little Corellas) and Pheasants (Pheasant Coucals?) Channel Cuckoos (Channel-billed Cuckoos) I even had variegated honey eater (I couldn’t even guess what honeyeater species that would be but the closest sounding name Varied Honeyeater would not be at Corlette NSW), Kookaburras, Pink and Greys (is that referring to Galah?), Sulpha-Crested cockatoos, (Sulphur-crested cockatoos) Pew Wees “(Magpie-Lark aka PeeWee).
