Sparrows Orr quiail

Speaking of quail, 24 hours after the first shower of rain for many moons, five quail were feeding on our (small) lawn yesterday, the first day of Spring, unperturbed by my wife hanging out the washing a few feet away. Also at least 30 other spp as well.

Bourke’s Parrot Distribution in Eastern NSW

Hi Folks. I was curious about Bourke's parrot distribution in NSW. Specifically are they ever seen between Griffith and Dubbo? What about other eastern areas in NSW? It appears if I have Ebird correctly that they only come as far east as Bourke and as far south as Broken Hill in NSW or there abouts. . . . → Read More: Bourke’s Parrot Distribution in Eastern NSW

Head pressing in Eastern Rosellas

Thanks Mike for doing the HANZAB Vol 5 search. I am now of the opinion that mite infestation is the most likely explanation for this peculiar behaviour. Geoff

Head pressing by Eastern Rosellas

Thank you all for your detailed and considered opinions on this observation. Some comments: . initially I did think the birds were probably listening for what dangers (reptilian, mammalian or avian) may be laying inside the nest box. However, I began to doubt this theory when I noticed how frequently the male head pressed the . . . → Read More: Head pressing by Eastern Rosellas
