Thank you for taking the time to address my query. Sorry for the time taken to reply. I have now had chance to measure the actual focus distance which is 9 metres. Someone has suggested that it may be that my eyesight is not as good as it used to be. Perhaps there is some truth in that however absence of close focus has always been the only problem I have had with the Leitz 10×50.
Any suggestion as to the best binoculars to purchase similar to the one I have now but with a much closer minimum focus would be appreciated. I live in the Brisbane area.

Duncan, how close do your current binoculars focus? I’m under the impression that it’s not uncommon for 10×50 binoculars to have quite a long minimum focus distance, perhaps because they’re less commonly used by birders.

Hi Everyone,
When I went to work today, I heard of a strange bird that had been collected
from a verandah in northern Bendigo (Epsom), after the owner called DELWP
for assistance.
To everyone’s surprise the bird was identified as a female Plains Wanderer
(photo attached).
I was particularly surprised as I’ve been helping with Plains Wanderer night
surveys within Terrick Terrick NP (about 100km north of Bendigo)for the past
two years, and not seen a single PW during this period.
Anyway, the PW has had a vet check and given the all clear to join a
breeding program with Melbourne Zoo.
I’m assuming that the bird may have been stunned after hitting a window,
perhaps from a night flight in the early hours of the morning!
