By Birding-Aus, on December 23rd, 2018% So Stephen Debus dismisses those who raise questions about endangered species research as "trolls and detractors on blogs and chatlines going off half-cocked". That comment speaks volumes about the author, and points to an arrogance among some in the scientific community that does little to advance discussion.

By Birding-Aus, on December 21st, 2018% Hi, Does anybody out there know why magpies (sample photo attached on one caught at home) lie in the full sun on the hottest days in summer sometimes for 15 to 20 minutes. Some cooling mechanism? Any journal articles available?
Many thanks
David in Blackheath

By Birding-Aus, on December 21st, 2018% Really interesting stuff! Nigel do we know what the Elegant subspecies was on the Pilbara boat? The IOC excel document have a note next to vigorsii (Double-striped Pitta Pitta vigorsii is a subspecies of Elegant Pitta P. elegans (Dickinson 2003)). vigorsii is also found in SW New Guinea.
Best wishes,
James Mustafa
