Central West N S W flooding.

Biggest flood for many years going down the Lachlan River filling up the vast lignum swamps along the way.

Lachlan only has a flood this big every 25 to 30 years and it will see massive breeding in the swamps by most water fowl especially the Glossy Ibis and the Freckled Duck.

Plains-wanderer

Talking to a shearer to-day shearing at Moulmein N S W and he tells me there are lots of Plains-wanderers on the back roads around Oxley N S W.

More than he has ever seen in 40 years shearing in that area.

Central West NSW flooding

Hi all,

After all the recent noise online here about Lake Cargelligo, Whoey Tank, Nombinnie, Round Hill, Back Yamma, and the wonderful birding ATM, don’t plan on going out there anytime soon.

Contacts in Euabalong, 25 mins north of Lake Cargelligo, expect to be cut off in the next few days. Condobolin has peaked . . . → Read More: Central West NSW flooding

Carnaby’s Cockatoos are taking to artificial nest hollows

It sounds a bit like Wally Kerkhof’s story. We visited him in Moora this year where, as I’m sure many know, he has had great success with artificial nest hollows.

I just got one of the new $5 notes and birders can reassure themselves about the colours on the Eastern Spinebill depicted on it. In fact there are several spinebills on different parts of the note but all are either outlines or solid pieces of tinfoil, so they are not printed in any colours, they . . . → Read More: new $5 note

Image galleries of grasswren specimens in museum collections

G’day all,

I’m using the images for colour comparison between birds in different parts of their range but I thought they might be of interest/use to other researchers and birdwatchers. To this end I’ve been uploading . . . → Read More: Image galleries of grasswren specimens in museum collections
