I agree with Frank that Purple-crowned Lorikeets are a possibility in the SW of WA, but I don’t think that one would easily confuse these “short-tailed, screaming bullets” with budgies. The most likely alternative are Purple-crowned Lorikeets that fly as a close flock. Budgerigars are irregular visitors to the SW. We had one on the Twitchathon in December 2013.
