Nikolas Haass kindly reminded me that the ‘morphs’ of the Brown Falcon are actually ’phases’, that is colour variants that change over time. The rufous ‘morph’ is actually an adult male plumage. Following a recent malapropismistic moment, I now have no need to continue lamely attempting to differentiate Russet-tailed and Bassian Thrush. There is only one species, the Basset-tailed Thrush, Zoothera malaprop.
