Hi all, as some of you may be aware after many years doing the main race the Menacing Monarchs are not competing this year. Myself and a friend have decided to do something very different and form a team that will run/walk the whole race. We are now looking for a third team member if you are interested just contact myself and I will give you more details, also when the race gets closer I will be asking for sponsorship Thanks Robert McDonald _______________________________________________ Birding-Aus mailing list Birding-Aus@birding-aus.org To change settings or unsubscribe visit: http://birding-aus.org/mailman/listinfo/birding-aus_birding-aus.org
Peter One of the 24 hour rogaines I did (in Beechworth) was in foul weather and in essence we dealt with it by getting wet. The big difference between rogaining and a twitchathon is that with the latter you have a long time to plan the route rather than about an hour to mark the map before you head off. The twitchathon route can also be designed to include useful spots such as bakeries and pubs although while rogaining we did visit a hostelry in Beechworth to rehydrate, and we heard that the local bakery had its best day of sales ever. But they’ll be in their cars with the heater on full blast as they drive to the next spot. I’ve done a couple of 24 rogaines, so I know what it’s like to walk for 24 hours, but we had good weather, and a base camp with someone cooking and keeping a fire going. You could cover quite a big distance in 24 hours if you go from point to point, but not so much if you use one base camp. I’m curious about how you’re going to manage the overnight bit. The out and back loops we did in rogaines covered several habitats – gullies, ridges, farmland, etc – so it will be interesting to see how you go. We are doing the 24hr race and like all other teams if the weather is bad we will just keep going

Interesting idea. Are you doing the 24 hour event? What do you intend to do about bad weather?
