I said to the Oriole,

Crouched in a nest,

Bill and tail projecting

Over the stream,

Within easy reach of people

Passing lunchtime in the park.

It’s interesting to see where birds choose to nest in urban areas. I’ve noticed an OB Oriole lurking around a park adjacent to the Brisbane CBD in recent weeks. Today I saw saw it fly to a low perch and thus discovered its nest – an attractive cup-shaped affair right beside a path. It was fairly tolerant of people, but flushed at a distance of five metres when approached along the path. I pointed the nest out to the park staff in the hope they might be able to reduce disturbance during the nesting period. They said they would get advice from WIRES.
