On Saturday Richard Nowotney agreed with me that the Spotted Whistle-Ducks had perhaps been our ” easiest and tamest” new species. I reiterate his concerns (from his posting) that the welcoming nature of the ducks could well be tested and therefore spoilt for others by too much close attention. David Crawford reckons that there is a good chance that they could be part of the Weipa flock due to their tameness. Please respect this marvellous opportunity that is afforded by these birds. Please take care not to walk directly to the pond but initially accross the open area towards the home for sale then to the pond. There would seem that the birds have plenty of food available in the water lillies and they are quite content to be observed from fifty metres.
