Pursuing the theme of Who is John Weigel, our latest Australian Big Year birder, I am advised that he is indeed the Director of the Australian Reptile Park (presumably on a year-long sabbatical). A little Web searching produced the following (no mention of birding interests?).
Perhaps John might like to join Birding-aus (if he isn’t a member already) and tell us all a little more about his Big Year?? Or Sean Dooley might like to contact him (surely?) and encourage him to contribute to Australian Birdlife.

From the Australian Reptile Park website:
1985:
A management team is formed to steer the Reptile Park, which includes future owners John and Robyn Weigel.
1992:
John and Robyn Weigel become principal owners of the business, and make the decision to relocate the Park.
June 2008
Australian Reptile Park Director Honoured Australian Reptile Park Director John Weigel receives one of the nation’s highest civilian awards – Member (AM) of the Order of Australia. The award was announced by the Governor General as part of the Queen’s Birthday celebrations in recognition of John’s contributions to Australian tourism, herpetology, and snake venom production.
