G’day B-aussers
It appears that White-throated Needletails have all (or almost all?) left Australia. At the moment the last records I have are from Victoria on 1st and 3rd of April.
Fork-tailed (Pacific) Swifts are still in the NT, with a number of sightings around Darwin, but at the same time they are the first I have records of as reaching South Korea. Ten were seen on the tenth April by Nial Moores – his first for the season.
So if you have any records for the 2011-12 season please send them to me or publish them where I can find them, so I can fill out their behaviour and continue to document their decline.
Many thanks & Happy birding

Hi Mike
I assume you are monitoring our birding nt website? 40-50 fork taileds out of my Darwin office window last Friday morning but didn’t seem to linger over the city as they have done in the past
Cheers
Andrew

G’day Mike My last record for the season for any migratory swifts up here was on 10/04/12 in Cairns of quite a number of Fork-tailed Swifts, all heading in a SE direction. This is the first season where I haven’t had ANY White-throated Needletails on the Cairns lowlands, not sure if anyone else here has had any?? I have seen Fork-taileds on fewer occasions this season here, although in some very very high numbers. I’ve attached my records for the season herewith for you.
