Hi all, Apologies for the double post – my last message came back with messed up formatting, hopefully this rectifies it For interest, here are the provisional results for this year’s WA Twitchathon – the final results will be released by the end of the month, and official presentations will take place at the BAWA meeting on the 23th January 2012 (starting 7.30pm). A big thanks to all those who participated and/or were involved in organising the event! This year saw an excellent range of sightings, and the state record totals in all three categories were bettered. It was also good to have new winning teams in all three competitions to keep things interesting (although I would’ve been fine with repeat winners in the 24hr competition!) 24 Hour Competition 1st: 173 species – The Western Whistlers (Mark Newman & Steve Burns) =2nd: 154 species – The Ruff Knights (Nathan Waugh, Bruce Greatwich & Liz Fox) and S.W.A.T. (Peter Taylor, Erica Shedley & Davis Secomb) 4th: 150 species – The Big Twits (Alan Collins, Greg Howell & John Graff) 5th: 103 species – The Rainbow Avocets (Robyn & Morgan Pickering) 6th: 81 species – Stark Raven Mad (Wes Bancroft, Natalie Warburton, & Scarlett & Leo Bancroft) – bonus kudos to this team for entering with two under 5s on board and a birthday party to run on the Sunday!! 12 Hour Competition 1st: 128 species – The Four Amigos (Frank O’Connor, Wayne Merritt, Wynton Maddeford & Alan Galbraith) 2nd: 80 species – Peeping Pardalotes (Andrew & Jill Hobbs, & Kerry Cowie) Armchair Competition1st: 59 species – Lazy Old Bustards (George & Pam Agar) 2nd: 57 species – Flying Nomads (Colin Heap & Ron Dibbens) 3rd: 49 species – The O.B.E. Team (Clive & Wendy Napier, & Brian Wilson) 4th: 47 species – Grey-crowned Babblers (Maris Lauva, Suzanne Mather & Josan Moss) 5th: 40 species – Birders of a Feather (Stella Stewart-Wynne, & Ed & Alyson Paull) Best BirdThere were a number of excellent candidates this year including Cockatiels in the wheatbelt and Little Button-quail further south, but the outstanding record was an INLAND DOTTEREL at Thomsons Lake seen (& photographed I think) by the Rainbow Avocets Worst DipAs always, plenty of stories of woe as well, but my current favourite for worst dip is SILVEREYE, missed by the Grey-crowned Babblers Cheers,John ===============================
