Some of you will know that Alan has been fighting a battle with Lung Cancer since August of last year.

Unfortunately the fight is drawing to a close for our friend and at the time of writing he is comfortable on a Morphine infusion with no active treatment. He is at Royal Melbourne Hospital, comforted by his parents, sister, some friends and other family members. It is a matter of hours before he passes away. He is drifting in and out of consciousness. I stress to you that he is no longer in pain and not suffering.

Alan loved nature photography and bird watching. His favourite sites were the Western Treatment Plant in Werribee, Victoria, and the nearby Youyangs, and Brisbane ranges. I remember being amazed at the shots he took of the yellow-bellied Parrot at WTP.

    Thanks for your message. Joe. If you get a chance to speak to Alan, please let him know that so many on this forum are grateful for his contributions to birds and wildlife photography. Alan’s work will be remembered fondly, and his contribution will go on thanks to his wonderful photographs.

    Alan’s at a place we’ll all be one day, and it’s good to know that he is comfortable and without pain. Those of us who pray will say one for him. Those who have met him will remember him, and those who only saw the photographs will be richer for having enjoyed them.

    I’m sorry to hear that. I met him a few times out birding, and did a couple of OBP surveys with him. I recall his OBP photos, they were close enough for the individuals to be identified from the bands and, if I recall correctly, in a part of WTP where they hadn’t been recorded before.
