Hi All I would also suggest that as Short-tailed Shearwaters are (supposedly) ‘the most populous bird in the world’ (?) and there are quote ‘23,000,000’ (That’s 23 MILLION) or almost one for every man woman and child on the Australian continent, and that they fly basically from one end of the world to another over, arguably, the most hostile terrain for any warm blooded mammal to occupy – that there will be casualities and there will be attrition. That’s does not negate the plastic facts or the lack of food in the ocean thanks to man’s depredations, however, it is only to be expected that a number will die en route. I think we need to accept this – but it is important to monitor the numbers.
