Unusual Tawny Frogmouth Behaviour

Hi Sandra,

Here on the central coast of NSW we noticed very similar behaviour by a pair of tawny frogmouths in December four years ago. On the first fine day after a spell of wet and cool weather the 2 birds flew down to the ground and lay spread-eagled as if sun-baking — as with yours they were in a small sunny patch under some trees. Not sure of the exact time, but we were having lunch when we spotted them. At the time I assumed they were either trying to warm up or dry out.

Cheers Peter Scott
