I have posted some photos of thornbill like birds on my blog that I have seen in the mangroves around Karratha and would appreciate assistance in identifying them… because they’ve got me completely stumped.

G’day Chris
I’m going to have a bit of a stab at ID-ing these small mangrove birds for you.
Going down the page on your blog, let’s number them 1 to 5, with 5 being your Dusky Gerygone, & 1 to 4 being your Q-marks.
I’m not sure if you can help by saying that the first 4 shots are of the same individual birds, or are of more than one individual. In answering this ID question for you, I have assumed they are all of different individuals, but I have no way of knowing this for sure…
Pic 1 – juvenile Dusky Gerygone – whitish vent & undertail coverts. Eye colour is unclear. Pic 2 – looks like same bird as 1 to me – whitish chin & throat, whitish undertail coverts. Eye colour unclear. Pic 3 – juvenile Dusky G again – pale to mid-toned eye, as well as whitish chin/throat & undertail coverts. Pic 4 – looks a different individual to me. This bird appears yellow throated & with dark eye. It’s a juvenile Yellow White-eye, I think.
It would be very helpful if you can answer whether these are 4 pics of different individuals… Anyway, from the info I have, I’ve taken a stab at the ID’s for you….
Cheers
