Yesterday while doing relief programs in the exclusion zone on Mount Merapi in Central Java I did a quick bird count.
Yes there were still birds 3km’s from the summit despite the eruptions from 3-4 weeks ago and the continual raining of ash and rumblings we experienced.
Swifts sp. – 100’s
Fork-tailed swift – dozens.
House Sparrow – 4 bathing in the ash dust??
Javan Myna – 1 flock flew over
Javan Kingfisher – 1 heard
Spotted Dove – 1!!
No Leafbirds cause there were no leaves!!
Now for Bali!!
