Thanks to everyone who responded to our request re finding Tree Sparrows at the Melbourne Zoo. The response was generous and many. Yesterday, we were lucky enough to attend the Twilight Concert at the Zoo. Using info. from all the respondents, we began our search soon after entering at 5:30pm. The first sparrows sighted were nearly all fledglings – they were everywhere. Eventually, their parents turned up and they all proved to be House Sparrows. This was the case around the Cafeteria, near the entrance, along the primate walk and around the giraffe enclosure. After about an hour and many hundreds of sparrows later, three male Tree Sparrows were sighted in the Barn Paddock of the elephant complex.
