Hi all
Probably off topic but there is a bird pic going viral on the web (it’s on Yahoo Groups in “Frenchies R Us” and Sinhala – Sri Lankan – Friends) and I’ve been asked what species it is.
It’s a stunning shot of a pigeon (I reckon a Fruit-dove Ptilinopus spp) with a squab under each wing.
(BTW do pigeons have two eggs because they have two wings?)
Being on the web means it can vanish at any moment. But one posting is currently at: http://andjoh.posterous.com/how-precious-is-this-nice-photo
Enjoy the pic – and please let me/us know what species it is.
PS I suggest NOT trying Wikipedia as I’ve been through most of its Ptilinopus images.

Michael,
I received the same image from Sri Lanka a few days ago. I think they might be Pink-necked Green Pigeon Treron vernans.
Cheers,
