Great close views of an adult Spotless crake yesterday, albeit sadly freshly deceased, pinned by the carpal joint to a strand of barbed wire adjacent to a small lily-covered lagoon near Kingfisher Park. it must have flown through and become caught with no-one coming by in time for rescue. A scarce species up here, but conceivably much overlooked, I saw one at Abattoir Swamp last year for instance and it’s occasional at Hastie’s Swamp. Phil Gregory www. cassowary-house.com.au
