There are two splits that haven’t happened which I think are waiting to happen:
1. Little Bronze-Cuckoo and Gould’s Bronze-Cuckoo (different appearance, different habitat, some different calls, different host species, migratory v sedentary)
2. Spotted Pardalote and Yellow-rumped Pardalote (different appearance, different calls and song, distinct ranges, different habitat)
I remember speaking with someone a couple of years back (I’ve a feeling that it might have been Phil Gregory but I would not swear to it!) who told me that the latest research on the Little BC would support a split into 3 species in Aus – but clearly this has not been published or accepted yet.
