This is just an quick update of the SOSSA trip highlights from today – 22 June 2013
A Blue Petrel was sighted, the 1st one from Wollongong since 1999. It hung around for 1/2 hour, coming within metres of the boat. Photos can be found on the SOSSA website at http://www.sossa-international.org/forum/showthread.php?180-SOSSA-Wollongong-trip-22-June-2013-highlights&p=342#post342
Other sightings included at least 9 Common Diving Petrel’s and over 10 Buller’s Albatross (7 at the one time is the most we saw). Otherwise it was the usual winter subjects, in good numbers for the most part. It was a good trip, although we only saw 1 Wandering Albatross, 1 Great-winged and 1 Solander’s Petrel. There were no Cape Petrel’s, which is unusual for June trips.

For those interested in east coast pelagic trips, the SOSSA website now has the Sydney trip reports back to 2009. They can be found at the following link http://www.sossa-international.org/forum/content.php?536-pelagic-reports-sydney
The goal is to have Sydney trip reports back to 2000, which should be finished in the next few weeks. This means that the SOSSA website now has around 300 trip reports from Wollongong, Sydney, Port Stephens and Southport, going back to 1999.
