Sleeping Black-tailed Native Hens

A friend has sent me a photo, taken at night, with a Wildlife camera, of a group of approximately 30 Black-tailed Native Hens, grouped in a perfect circle, with heads facing out, is this well known and is it a group protection thing when sleeping, I do not know how to display this photo to the group but I can send it on to anyone interested.
