By analogy with the remark about crash helmets: “If you have a $200 head, get a $200 helmet!” – from memory my “3 Season” down filled bag cost about $350 about 25 years ago. I have always used a silk inner sheet, and in my bush-walking days used a closed cell foam mattress. On two occasions I have been snowed on, and when on the Bogong High Plains to see Halley’s Comet, the night was so clear and cold that in the morning my dark brown tent was covered with a fur of frost crystals.
