Hi all, About 18 months ago, after extensive internet research, I bought a Pacific Image PowerSlide 5000 slide scanner from the US to scan my collection of almost 10,000 slides. It has served its purpose very well. After some trial-runs to get the settings right it was a matter of set-and-forget. It takes about 3-4 hrs to churn through a tray of 50 slides, resulting in 8-10 MB jpegs. It can also spit out tiffs at twice the size and has built-in scratch / dust removal software, which I was sceptical about, but it works reasonably well. I’m happy to report that I can now look at my old slides again! I’ve even scanned some 40 year old family slides which, aside from the fading colours, have come out amazingly well. Interesting observation was that the quality of the photos produced with my current digital photography equipment far outweighs that what’s resulted from many years spent photographing birds with a film SLR + decent 400mm lens…. Ah well, it’s good for memories. I thought this may be of interest to others. Feel free to contact me if you’re interested to find out more about this piece of equipment. cheers Peter ——- Peter Waanders Bellbird Tours
