Salvin’s Albatross, The Gap

Hi All, With the ideal sea watching conditions ruining most people’s idea of a good long weekend, I spent the best part of yesterday perched on the cliffs at The Gap (South Head, Sydney) – not contemplating my own existence but that of the dark-headed albatross below me. After a sustained period of faced-battering easterlies a Salvin’s Albatross (Shy-type) blew in to within 200 meters of my front door! (Didn’t quite make the garden list.) It showed up at around 14:00 and stuck around for half an hour or so. Pictures here – http://blog.dartfordwarbler.com/2011/06/salvins-albatross.html Thanks to Martin Cachard, Nikolass Haass and Lindsay Smith for confirming the ID. Cheers, Paul ===============================
