Sad roadkill

Hi

I traveled the Bruce Highway in the southern Sunshine Coast today and glimpsed some very dead roadkill. I am 90% sure it was a Yellow tailed black cockatoo. Traffic and commitments did not allow me to stop. If I am right, I am not too surprised as I have seen the birds swooping in and out of highway-side acacias. This bird must have done the same and been collected by a vehicle.

On that note, in large parts of the highway, the strip between north and southbound traffic is planted with profuse bottle brushes and, judging by the roadkill, these are very attractive to fruit bats and ringtail possums. Is that good planning, I wonder?

Cheers

Andrew
