I have late records of Rufous Songlark in the Bendigo area for this year as follows:
6th April, 2011. 3 birds in farmland along Neilborough Rd just south of Greater Bendigo National Park, then another in the national park along Camp Rd in box-ironbark woodland. All were silent. 23rd April, 2011. Single bird in Greater Bendigo National Park along Camp Rd east of Bendigo-Tennyson Rd. 7th May, 2011. Single bird as above.
The early April record could be put down to birds on passage perhaps, but the following two records would probably have to be considered as over-winterers. First birds I’ve ever seen after March in Victoria.
