Red-eared fire tail near Mandurah

As John Graff has said, you will need to go up into the Darling Range. From Mandurah, go east on Pinjarra Road to Pinjarra, and then east to Dwellingup (the road near the hotel at the bridge). Dwellingup is about an hour from Mandurah. Just before you get to Dwellingup, look for River Road on your right (south). You can definitely find Red-eared Firetail and Western Thornbill along River Road. It is mostly unsealed but in good condition. The best place for REF is where you head down towards a gully. WTs are in the open jarrah / marri / banksia woodlands. The best way is find a mixed feeding flock, or to listen for their calls. Baudin’s (Long-billed) Black-Cockatoo can be anywhere in the area. You may want to head south on Nanga Road (I think this is the name of the road) to the entrance to Lane Poole NR. Just past the entrance is a bridge across the Murray River. This can be a good area if they are around. You can also continue further south to a day use area on the right. You can also get most of the endemics (and near endemics) in these areas. White-breasted Robin, Western Yellow Robin, Western Spinebill, Swan River Honeyeater, Western Wattlebird, Red-capped Parrot, Western Rosella, etc. Square-tailed Kite is a chance. I have heard Crested (Western) Shrike-tit in the area.
