Red capped robin mulgoa valley

Finally tracked down an unusual trill over the creek, it is Red Capped Robin. Reasonably approachable and a brilliant little bird .

At least three others heard from different areas about 100 m apart.

The one seen was perched on a low acacia branch and flying out onto the adjacent paddock to catch insects, similar to Jacky Winters, also around.

Rose Robins are routine winter visitors, Scarlet and Flame occasional ,in this part of Mulgoa Valley but this is the first Red Capped I have seen or heard in our many decades here.

A White-necked Heron, possibly from the Penrith Lakes 10 km away or from the Inland, also around for a few days, White-faced Heron nesting, ditto Golden Cisticolas. Pair of Brown Cuckoo Doves still around and may be breeding on the creek, and an Eastern Whipbird in the front garden up from the creek. Baillons Crake still walking water.

Many other “usuals”.

This has been one of the best birding Springs for many years, but surprising few ducks on the six dams.
