CLOSURE OF BIRDHIDE The birdhide in Edithvale Rd, Edithvale, Vic remains closed to the public, by Melbourne Water, as it is deemed unsafe. The observation platform beside it gives good views but no weather protection. At present there is not a lot of waterfowl there despite the quantity of water. If you joined Friends of Edithvale-Seaford Wetlands you would know all about it!
A Melbourne Water assessment of the hide found structural problems, mainly concerning the upper level. I am not sure what can be done but I hope it can be re-opened soon.
Last time I stopped for a look, the water level was very high with no mud banks that most of the more interesting birds frequent.

What a pity. What’s wrong with it? Rotting? Vandalism? Will it be fixed?
