Hi All
An 8.00-13.30 seawatch off Pt Lookout in medium strength (15-20 knot) south easterlies on Sunday yielded just under 1000 Wedge-tailed, a few birds shy of 100 Short-tailed and 1 Buller’s Shearwater (all estimates based on 15 minute counts conducted each hour) with a peak of 244 Wedgies passing between 11-12.00. 4 Pomarine and 6 Artic Skuas also passed by although 2 beautifully marked light phase Artics returned several times to put on spectacular performances as they hunted terns off the point.
What’s better than Shearwaters, Skuas, Pink Floyd on the iPod and crappy flask coffee?
Nothing!
Cheers
I’d go with Pink Floyd (my favourite band and also out of loyalty – my daughter sang with one of the best of the PF tribute bands). However, I’d have good coffee (even in the remote bush I always had the best!, a few terrific birds as well as the ‘weird deep sea fish’ (it’s like a lucky dip!), and company of the sort that Helen Larson could provide! what’s better? Rust Never Sleeps played really really loud on a rusty NSW fisheries vessel, rolling and bouncing while waiting for the Isaacs-Kidd trawl to come up full of weird deep sea fishes, with albatrosses and giant petrels sailing past and peering at you.

How I wish, how I wish you were split. We’re just two lost beasts Numbers on a spread sheet, Tick after tick Running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears. Wish you were split.
O.K. – Sorry for that one…
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, Arctics from Poms… Can you tell a green field From a Humpbacked Whale? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell?
